Overview

Are you confident you’re pronouncing sounds like "う," "し," "ふ," and "を" correctly in Japanese? If you're not sure, join us online for a 60-minute workshop designed specifically for Japanese language teachers! We’ll explore these foundational sounds from the Japanese 50-sound chart together. Chisato Yoshioka, our Japanese National Language Adviser, will lead the session with a focused lecture, and there will be plenty of time to discuss common challenges and share ideas for teaching pronunciation with fellow teachers.

Where: Online - Zoom link will be provided to registered participants before the workshop.

Registrations open on 14 November and close on 9 December 2024

Language: This workshop will be delivered primarily in Japanese.

What we will cover

This online workshop is designed to give Japanese language teachers with a practical introduction to teaching Japanese pronunciation. Together, we’ll explore the sounds on the Japanese 50-sound chart (50音表) with references to the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) to clarify pronunciation points and deepen understanding. Participants will also enjoy discussion time to share common challenges and ideas in pronunciation instruction.

Throughout the session, participants will:

  • Build foundational knowledge forteaching pronunciation using the Japanese 50-sound chart.
  • Share and discuss pronunciation challenges and solutions.
  • Explore engaging and effective strategies to teach Japanese pronunciation.
