Overview

Join our monthly 45-minute online sessions to engage in casual conversations with fellow Japanese language teachers and Chisato Yoshioka, our Japanese National Language Adviser. In 2025, our theme is Japanese Anime and Manga! Each session will highlight well-known anime and manga from various genres. Whether you’re already a fan, curious to explore, or completely new to anime and manga, this monthly online workshop series offers fresh insights and practical ideas for teaching.

What we will cover

These online sessions offer Japanese language teachers the opportunity to use Japanese while exploring the beloved aspects of Japanese culture: anime and manga.

Each monthly session will focus on a different genre, such as sports, adventure, or historical drama. Sessions will include discussions on anime and manga in Japanese, along with insights from experts in the field. These topics will serve as a springboard for practical conversations in Japanese and opportunities to connect with fellow teachers.

Throughout the session, participants will:

  • Use Japanese in practical discussions on the session’s topic
  • Gain insights and resources to engage students
  • Connect with teachers from different regions to share ideas and experiences.

Tui Tuia | Learning Circle Languages is funded to provide professional learning for provisionally and fully registered Primary, Intermediate and Secondary teachers throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.
