Overview

Kōkiritia Marautanga is a partnership collaboration between the Ministry of Education, Tui Tuia | Learning Circle, University of Auckland, Auckland Primary Principals’ Association (APPA), and Auckland Secondary Schools Principals’ Association (ASSPA). This is an opportunity to lead your school community to successfully embed the refreshed NZ Curriculum. The aim of this community is to understand the design and intent of Te Mātaiaho across Years 1-13.

About the course

Course information

Kōkiritia Marautanga is available to a limited number of Kāhui Ako or school clusters in Auckland. We aim to bring together 15 collaboration partners (self-selected primary, secondary, or mixed).

There will be a lead principal, a designated curriculum leader, and up to two across-school leaders from each participating Kāhui Ako or cluster. The composition of the community will involve a mix of schools and be regionally proportionate.

All designated lead principals are expected to submit an expression of interest by 24 April 2023. These will be reviewed to confirm participation.

What we will cover

Kōkiritia Marautanga is based on a shared commitment to successfully implement Te Mātaiaho, which will allow schools to assess how change is implemented and the associated successes or challenges. Participating Kāhui Ako or school clusters will be able to advise the Ministry of Education about the issues experienced in the implementation of the NZ Curriculum Refresh. Principals, curriculum leaders, and other partners involved in this collaboration will receive the support they need to understand and implement the changes.

For more details on this initiative, watch the NZ Curriculum Refresh - Te Mātaiaho video from the Ministry of Education. You can also download the printable brochure here.

Structure

Kōkiritia Marautanga will meet for a full-day hui, once a term. Additionally, two further days can be scheduled as required. The representatives of participating Kāhui Ako or clusters will then work within their own schools to assist their school leaders to implement curriculum change.

The hui will start in Term 2, 2023, and conclude in Term 2, 2024.

The first meeting will be held on Tuesday 16 May 2023 at the Kohia Centre.

All designated lead principals are expected to submit an expression of interest by 24 April 2023. These will be reviewed to confirm participation.

Cost

All costs associated with the administration and facilitation of this community are funded. Kāhui Ako or clusters are asked to support staff to attend the face-to-face engagements, which will be held in Auckland (venues to be confirmed).
