Overview

This PLD introduces Kaiāwhina / Teacher Aides / Learning Assistants to the UDL framework with reference to the New Zealand context and the ways in which it could be applied within the classroom.

9am - 3pm, Thursday 13th June

9am - 3pm, Wednesday 14 August

Registration for online workshops concludes one week before the scheduled workshop dates.

What we will cover

This PLD focuses on understanding the Universal Design for Learning (UDL), as well as what it means and why educators need it. Teacher Aides will be introduced to the UDL framework with reference to the New Zealand context and the ways in which it could be applied within the classroom.

You will understand why UDL is important to improve your teaching and learning practice, and what is meant by Inclusive Practice. The course will build your skills to apply UDL to the classroom, and you will understand where to go for more information and resources for UDL. Applying the principles of UDL enables equity in education and reduces barriers to education in the classroom and in the mindset of educators. Teacher Aides will be able to address the needs of their students following UDL.

This course builds your capability in the following Teacher Aide Competency area:

  • Inclusion: Understand inclusive practice and Universal Design for Learning

Online $800 per person + GST

In-person $1000 per person + GST

Individual Teacher Aides can apply for up to $1,000 of funding to access PLD over the term of the Collective Agreement - 19 February 2024.

You can apply for funding to:

  • cover the fees/ costs for the PLD
  • reimburse your school for the time required for you to participate in the PLD during workhours so that you can be paid at your normal rate
  • contribute to travel and accommodation required for you to participate in the PLD.
