This course aims to support Years 4 to 9 teachers in effectively teaching additional languages and enhancing students' understanding of languages and cultures.

Course information

Who will benefit from this course:

Years 4 to 9 language and culture teachers who are currently teaching or plan to teach additional languages in their classroom.

Course Structure:

This course is delivered through two full-day face-to-face workshops. four online workshops and practice analysis school visits.

Participants will also be supported by a digital learning platform for on-going inquiry and reflection.

What we will cover

Important note: Dates and workshop venue will be confirmed once the programme commences.

Workshop 1 (online)

Introduction to the course, the digital learning platform, meet and share contexts, PGC requirements

Wednesday 19th March 2025, 4:00-5.30pm

Workshop 2 (full-day face-to-face)

Basic pedagogical framework for Language teaching.

Strategies for developing learners Listening and Speaking skills highlighting the relationship between language and culture.

Thursday 3rd April 2025, 9am-3pm

Workshop 3 (online)

Enhancing global citizenship in additional language learning

Tuesday 27th May 2025, 4:00-5:30pm

Workshop 4 (full-day face-to-face)

Build on pedagogical framework for Language teaching

Strategies for developing learners' reading and writing skills, highlighting the relationship between language and culture

Wednesday 23rd July 2025, 9am-3pm

Workshop 5 (online)

Integrate cross-curricular inclusion into your language and culture learning approach

Wednesday  10th September 2025, 4:00-5:30pm

Professional Growth Cycle Presentations.

Cost

At no cost for NZ registered teachers.

Selected participants will be advised of the location once registrations have closed. Tui Tuia | Learning Circle - Languages will pay for associated travel for teachers who are outside of the city of delivery for face-to-face workshop(s) or provide delivery online where appropriate.  

Upon completion of the programme, your school can claim back the cost of two Teacher Release Days.
