About the course
This course is available on demand, and the delivery method is online, face-to-face, and blended. For both the online and the in-person course, there will be two half-day sessions with an expectation from you to complete a practical task before the final day.

This is a practical knowledge building workshop designed for both new and experienced Teacher Aides. It focuses on developing an understanding of the Teacher Aide role and developing a toolbox of skills and strategies to enhance the effectiveness of student learning.
Teacher Aide can be the kaitautoko | advocate for ākonga, supporting them to set goals, build resilience, reflect on their learning, take a holistic view of the student to be able to meet their needs.
This course will help you identify strategies for positive behaviour support, and you will have a toolbox to enhance students learning in reading, writing and mathematics. You will be able to work collaboratively with the classroom teacher and other key personnel.
This course builds your capability in the following Teacher Aide Competency areas:
- Behaviour: Understand and support the implementation of behaviour programmes.
- Learning support: Maintain class engagement and participation in learning.
- Professional skills: Build trusting professional relationships with learners and teaching staff; Develop and maintain networks and collaborative partnerships.
