About the course

Course information
What we will cover

In this workshop, you will learn about some of the first German speaking settlers in Aotearoa. You will actively explore the Puhoi settlement and trace back its German speaking history.  Additionally, you will be exposed to the CLIL (Content Language Integrated Learning) approach by applying German history in the German language learning environment.

Another very unique element of this workshop is the linking of secondary/tertiary German learners and their findings about Puhoi; students studying at The University of Auckland will prepare a rally around Puhoi that includes tasks and interactions among teachers and students and also with contemporary witnesses and inhabitants of Puhoi.

This workshop aims to provide you with ideas how to set up a school trip with learners of Germans. It also aims to enrich your teaching content by providing new insight in the first German-speaking settlements in Aotearoa.
