Overview
Celebrate the 2025 Chinese New Year, the Year of the Snake, through a unique blend of traditions intertwined with te ao Māori whai connections. This workshop provides an opportunity to deepen cultural knowledge while exploring innovative ways to incorporate these traditions into the classroom. Travel subsidies are available for participants traveling from outside Auckland.

Parking: Owen G. Glenn Building (OGGB) car park, accessible via Grafton Road. The rate is $6 per day on weekends.
Travel subsidies
Ten travel subsidies of up to $500 each are available for teachers traveling from outside Auckland. To apply, please email tuituia.languages@auckland.ac.nz by 24 January 2025. Travel subsidies will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

This workshop offers hands-on activities that integrate cultural learning with teaching strategies. Activities include traditional Chinese printing (活字印刷), STEM-focused snake handcrafts, and engaging Jeopardy-style games.
Participants will also receive Chinese readers and resources to support their teaching practice.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Integrate Chinese New Year traditions with te ao Māori in the classroom, focusing on cultural connections and the 2025 Year of the Snake.
- Implement hands-on, STEM-integrated activities, such as Chinese printing (活字印刷) and snake handcrafts, to engage students in cultural learning.
- Access and utilise Chinese readers and resources to enhance classroom teaching and enrich students' cultural understanding.
The workshop will be delivered in both English and Chinese.
