Overview

Teachers of Chinese will have the opportunity to further enhance their language skills and experience Chinese culture more deeply. All the participants will live on a university campus, allowing them to immerse themselves in both university life and daily life of Beijing. This first-hand experience will enhance their ability to teach the Chinese language in their classrooms.

Departing from Auckland on Sunday 21 September, and returning to Auckland on Saturday 4 October.

Application:

Applications open on 14 March 2025 and close on 4 April 2025. No registrations will be accepted after this date.

Principals and/or in-school PLDapprovers will be contacted to endorse a teacher’s application.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be NZregistered teachers currently teaching Chinese at a NZ primary, intermediate, orsecondary school and are intending to continue to teach Chinese in NZ in 2026and beyond.
  • Pre-Service Teachers and holders of aLAT are not eligible.
  • Mustbe a New Zealand passport holder or a New Zealand permanent resident visaholder.
  • Must be between the ages of 25 and 55 to meet the eligibility criteria set forth by CLEC.

Places on the trip are very limited and priority will go to those who:

  • Are involved in teaching levels 1 to 4 of the Learning Languages area of the curriculum.
  • Have a proven track recordin engagement with PLD offered by Tui Tuia | Learning Circle
  • Preferably have a proficiency in Chinese at HSK Level 1 or higher
  • Are not a native speaker of Chinese.

The programme offers a unique opportunity for Chinese Language teachers to immerse themselves in the vibrant culture of Beijing, China. During this immersive exploration, participants will engage in linguistic and cultural activities.
