Celebrating Chinese Culture in Bay of Plenty Schools

The workshops for Bay of Plenty schools offer a unique opportunity for both teachers and students to explore and immerse themselves in Chinese cultural activities. This opportunity is available from 26th May to 30th May during the 2025 Term 2.

Overview

Are you fascinated by Chinese language and culture? Would you like your students to experience it at school? This Chinese cultural workshop is available at no cost for any primary, intermediate, and secondary schools in the Bay of Plenty region. We can visit your school and offer a range of workshops and activities. If you're interested, please register your interest for one of the workshop options listed below and we will reach out to organise the workshop for your school.

What we will cover

Workshop Offerings:

Workshop 1: Chinese Kung Fu

Discover the power and beauty of Chinese martial arts through fun, beginner-friendly movements and cultural insights (suitable for all year levels, maximum 50 students per session).

Workshop 2: Chinese Kung Fu Fan

Learn fan movements that combine strength, style, and tradition (suitable for Year 5 and above, maximum 50 students per session).

Workshop 3: Lion Dance

Experience the excitement of lion dance through movement and cultural storytelling (suitable for Year 3 and above, maximum 30 students per session).

Workshop 4: Dragon Dance

Explore the tradition and teamwork behind the dragon dance (suitable for Year 5 and above, maximum 30 students per session).

Please register your interest and we will send you a survey to complete the following information:

• which workshop and activity your school is interested in (e.g. Workshop 1: Chinese Kung Fu)

• preferred workshop date and time

Important Information

Please note that each workshop session has listed capacities beside each workshop type. Each workshop lasts up to one hour. We can conduct 2-3 workshop sessions at your school.

Ensure that the venue at your school is covered and spacious enough to accommodate physical activities for the number of students. Also, make sure students come dressed in appropriate sportswear for the session. The workshop will be delivered in both Chinese and English.

Cost

At no cost for NZ registered teachers.

Tui Tuia | Learning Circle Languages is funded to provide professional learning for provisionally and fully registered Primary, Intermediate and Secondary teachers throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.
